

Marc Urban enters his fourth season at the helm of the Chesterton Trojans basketball program in 2019-2020. In his first three seasons at Chesterton, he has helped lead the Trojans to a 56-20 record and a 2018-2019 Sectional Championship. During his first season at Chesterton in 2016-2017, Coach Urban led the Trojans to a 16-9 record. In his second season in 2017-2018, the Trojans improved to 21-4 and finished 5-2 in the Duneland Athletic Conference. In his third season in 2018-2019, the Trojans won the Sectional Championship beating rival Valparaiso and moving on to the Regional Playoffs.
He was named to the position on May 10, 2016, and came to Chesterton after serving as a basketball coach for ten seasons at Lake Central High School. At Lake Central, Coach Urban served in the boys basketball program on coach Dave Milausnic's staff from 2006 to 2012. He served as a freshmen coach from 2006-2009, junior varsity coach from 2009-2010, and varsity assistant coach from 2010-2012. In his time as varsity assistant, the Indians nearly upset Class 4A #1 Munster in the sectional in 2011, and wound up capturing the Sectional #1 Championship in the 2012 season, while having the best season at Lake Central since 1984 with a 21-3 record.
At the conclusion of the 2012 boys basketball season, Coach Urban was named the head girls' basketball coach at Lake Central. In his first season in 2012-2013, he led the Indians to a third place finish in the Duneland Athletic Conference and a Sectional Championship. In his second season in 2013-2014, the Lady Indians finished second place in the Duneland Athletic Conference, finishing with a record of 19-3. In 2014-2015, the Lady Indians won their second Sectional Championship of his tenure as well as their first ever Duneland Athletic Conference crown. The Indians played in the Regional Championship game and finished ranked #11 in the state of Indiana. In the 2015-2016 season, Lake Central won its second straight Duneland Athletic Conference championship and won the most games (23) since the turn of the century; the Lady Indians finished ranked #9 in the state. Coach Urban was honored for his efforts at the end of the 2015-2016 season by being named both the Northwest Indiana Times and Post Tribune Girls' Basketball Coach of the Year.
Coach Urban is a 2001 graduate of Lake Central High School and a 2006 graduate of Indiana State University. At Lake Central, he played for Indians coach Jim Black. At Indiana State, he was a student manager under Bob Knight protege Royce Waltman. Coach Urban rostered for the Sycamores during his senior season, and appeared in a few games. Coach Urban teaches Physical Education at Chesterton High School. He is the son of former Highland High School boys' basketball coach, girls' basketball coach, and athletic director Mike Urban. Coach and his wife Traci have two daughters, Grace and Averie.
